Parents often have practical questions before arranging a private paediatric consultation in the UK. The information below addresses some of the most common queries about appointments, online consultations, fees and how care works alongside NHS services.
If your question is not covered here, you are welcome to get in touch before booking.
Appointments can be booked online using the booking link on the website, where available time slots are shown in real time. Alternatively, appointments can also be arranged by email at [email protected], including for insured patients.
A GP referral is not usually required for a consultant paediatrician appointment, although some insurers may request one for insurance authorisation.
Private consultations are designed to provide timely access when parents are concerned. Availability is shown on the booking page.
If you need to change or cancel your appointment, please let us know at least 24 hours in advance so that the appointment can be offered to another family. If cancelled within 24 hours the deposit is refunded.
Yes. Online paediatric consultation appointments are available for follow-up or when you seek advice. Some conditions require in-clinic examination, and this will be explained at the time of booking.
No. Some concerns require a physical examination and are therefore best assessed in person.
An online consultation can be helpful if you are seeking advice about the possible meaning of symptoms, how to monitor your child at home, suitable over-the-counter treatments and when to seek further medical review. However, for symptoms such as fever, rashes, cough, discharge or pain, a formal diagnosis cannot usually be made without a physical examination. The online appointment registration form will help guide you on whether an online consultation is appropriate. Alternatively, please feel free to email us at [email protected] with your query for further advice.
You will need a reliable internet connection and a device with video capability. Instructions are provided before the consultation.
Details about paediatric consultation cost and insurance arrangements are available on the Fees & Insurance page.
Several major insurers are accepted, including Bupa, WPA, Vitality and Aviva. Families should confirm cover and obtain authorisation before attending.
After each appointment, consultation notes and any results are made available via the patient portal.
Please bring a valid photo ID for the legal guardian, your child’s birth certificate (electronic copy is acceptable), the red book for children under one year old, a list of medications and any relevant previous medical records or results.
For non-urgent queries, you can email [email protected]. Messages are reviewed and responded to as promptly as possible.
No. A private child health assessment is not an emergency service. In urgent or life-threatening situations, please call 999 or 111, or attend your nearest Urgent Care Centre or Emergency Department.
No. Private consultations complement NHS care and can provide timely assessment and continuity. Emergency and urgent care should always be accessed through NHS services.
Further information about what happens during an appointment is available on the How Appointments Work page. If you are unsure which service is appropriate, a General Paediatric Consultation is usually the best starting point.
