Online Appointments Secure and convenient online paediatric appointments for babies, children and young people, offering clear guidance and continuity of care for families.

An online paediatric consultation enables families to speak with a Consultant Paediatrician from the comfort of their own home. These virtual appointments are particularly useful for follow-up discussions or advice on various concerns when a physical examination is not immediately necessary.

Dr Emanuela Manea offers structured and confidential virtual paediatric appointments, providing the same calm, careful approach as in-clinic consultations. Parents often choose an online appointment to follow up after an initial in-clinic appointment, discuss their concerns (e.g. new diagnosis, medical reports, test results, or concerning symptoms), or seek guidance for suspected speech delay, developmental delay, or behavioural concerns.

Understanding online paediatric consultations

An online consultation is conducted via a secure video platform. The focus is on listening carefully to your concerns, reviewing medical history and providing clear explanations and practical next steps. Some conditions can be appropriately managed through remote consultation. Others require in-person examination. If during the discussion it becomes clear that your child would benefit from being seen in the clinic, this will be explained and arrangements made accordingly.

Paediatric consultations do not provide emergency care. In a life-threatening emergency, call 999. For urgent advice, call 111 or attend your nearest Emergency Department.

Seek emergency help immediately if your child has:

  • Difficulty breathing (your child is struggling to breathe with skin sucking in around the ribs with each breath or too breathless to talk, eat, or drink)
  • Fever and unwell babies under 5 months of age
  • Persistent high fever with your child becoming increasingly unwell
  • A non-blanching rash (a rash that does not fade when pressed)
  • A severe allergic reaction (e.g. anaphylaxis)
  • Bleeding that does not stop
  • Confusion or disorientation
  • Ongoing seizures
  • Collapsed, is unresponsive, or cannot be woken
  • Burns and injuries
  • Was witnessed or suspected to have ingested a substance or taken a medication overdose
  • Thoughts of self-harm or suicide

When an online appointment may be helpful

An online consultation may be suitable if your child:

  • Requires follow-up after a previous appointment
  • Has feeding or sleeping or weaning concerns that can be discussed without examination
  • Needs review of test results or specialist reports
  • Has mild symptoms where initial advice and guidance is appropriate
  • Requires discussion of developmental or behavioural concerns
  • Needs guidance about whether in-clinic assessment is necessary
  • Has ongoing parental concern that would benefit from early discussion
  • Lives at a distance from clinic locations
  • Requires continuity with a known clinician

How online appointments are carried out

Before the consultation, families may be asked to provide relevant medical history and information (e.g. results, reports, clinic letters) you would like to discuss. The appointment itself includes a detailed discussion and review of symptoms, followed by an explanation of likely causes and recommended next steps. Where necessary, advice may include monitoring at home, arranging investigations, advice on available over-the-counter treatment or booking an in-clinic appointment. If specialist input is required, this may involve a specialist assessment or referral.

Consultation documentation is shared via the secure patient portal in the same manner as in-clinic visits.

Management and follow-up

Online consultations can form part of ongoing care. Some children require only advice and reassurance. Others benefit from follow-up appointments to monitor progress or adjust management plans. Continuity of care is central.

Families know who they are speaking to and can build a consistent therapeutic relationship over time.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes. Consultations are conducted via secure platforms that protect patient confidentiality.

Follow-up reviews, most non-urgent  parental  concerns, developmental discussions and result reviews are often suitable. Concerns requiring physical examination are better assessed in a clinic.

Repeat prescriptions for an established diagnosis may be issued following an online assessment. Where appropriate, suitable over-the-counter treatment options will also be recommended. In many cases, however, an in-clinic review is required before a prescription can be provided.

Follow-up with Dr Manea can also be arranged as needed. If symptoms worsen and urgent care is required please contact NHS 111 or call 999 for life-threatening emergencies.

Online consultations complement in-clinic care. They are not a substitute for an examination or urgent assessment.
