Some concerns require input beyond a general paediatric assessment. In these situations, a paediatric specialist referral can help ensure that your child receives the most appropriate expertise, investigations or multidisciplinary support.
Dr Emanuela Manea provides careful, structured assessments to determine when further specialist input is needed. The aim is always to clarify the clinical picture first, explain the options clearly, and guide families through the next steps in a coordinated and supportive manner. Specialist pathways are usually discussed following a General Paediatric Consultation.
A specialist assessment for children may be recommended when symptoms are complex, persistent, atypical or require advanced diagnostic evaluation. This does not necessarily indicate a serious condition, but rather that a focused opinion or investigation would be helpful. Specialist input may relate to areas such as cardiology, neurology, gastroenterology, allergy, endocrinology, respiratory medicine, developmental or other paediatric subspecialties. In some cases, referral may also involve allied health professionals such as physiotherapists, speech and language therapists, dietitians or psychologists.
Clear communication is essential. Families are supported in understanding why a referral is suggested, what the specialist will assess, and how this fits within the overall care plan.
Referral may be considered if your child:
The process begins with a detailed review of your child’s history, examination findings and any previous investigations. Where appropriate, Dr Manea will explain why further private paediatric investigations or referrals may be helpful.
Referrals are made, with your consent, to trusted specialists or services, and relevant medical information is shared to ensure continuity of care.
Parents are kept informed about what to expect, likely timescales, and the purpose of any additional tests or specialist assessments.
In many cases, Dr Manea remains involved to help interpret findings, coordinate care and ensure that recommendations are integrated into your child’s overall management plan.
Specialist involvement does not replace ongoing paediatric care. Follow-up may include reviewing specialist reports, monitoring progress, adjusting management plans or coordinating communication between services. Continuity of care remains central.
Families know who to contact, understand the pathway ahead and feel supported throughout the referral process.
